A novel in 30 days…

November is National Novel Writing Month.  My psychiatrist, as treatment because I can’t climb right now, gave me the project of writing a 50,000 word novel with three acts and 60 scenes.  Now, remember, I can only type with one hand right now, and that boils down to some serious concentration and 1,667 words per day if I am to get to 50,000 words in 30 days.  I am already one day behind.  That’s okay, though, because I’ll make it up somehow.  We have some rainy days coming.  At the end of this exercise, I’ll have a first draft of a novel, a story that I came up with myself, and a whole lot of expertise in typing with one hand!  I typed up six scenes and 1,900+ words yesterday.

National Novel Writing Month has a website, by the way.  It’s at http://www.NaNoWriMo.org, I believe.  You can track your words, enter your novel, get into a novel-writing community, donate to their cause (which is getting resources for people to be able to write), and more.  My psychiatrist was an English major and taught high school English before he became a doctor, so that is why he even knew about it.  He knows lots of interesting things…
