Fixing fence

Today, I spent the morning fixing fence out along the edge of my mom’s field.  About eight posts had broken off and were leaning every which way, making the fence look like something that would be dazzling in a black and white photograph, but not very functional…  I held the wooden posts out of the way while my mom pounded the new posts into the ground with the post pounder and we wired the old wooden posts to the newly pounded-in green and white steel posts.  We dug up some goatheads and bagged those – nasty weed that they are – and then my mom watered her fruit trees, which aren’t doing so great, but are alive somehow.  She carried two one-gallon milk jugs full of water to each one and dumped it on them.

Our next project was to replace the gutter to its rightful place on the shop, where it had been torn off of by a microburst.  Unfortunately, it broke all of the brackets, so we had to replace those.  I held the ladder, because my mom knew what she wanted to do and how she wanted to do it.  I stood in the raspberry patch holding the ladder in the heat…the mid-90’s heat with humidity that roasted me slowly like a rotisserie chicken in a grocery store deli case.  There was no breeze.  Nothing but a haze of smoke from the wildfires in neighboring states and sweltering heat.  It took us a while to fix that, but we got it done.  I was hoping to get finished sooner than that so that I could climb today, but I was so tired by the time we got done with all of that that I showered up, let my mom wash my clothes, and hung out with my parents for lunch, which was awesome because my mom cooked salmon patties!  I love salmon patties!!!  She sent the leftovers home with me, too, which was nice of her.  I got fresh green peas from the garden, too! It was all well worth it to get out of the city for a day and help my mom with some projects.  My mom always has a project going.  If she doesn’t, I get worried because it means she’s not feeling well.  She’s got plenty going on, though, so she’s plenty healthy!!!

I also got the medication that I’ve been out of since Monday today, so I can start taking it tomorrow and feel better, too.  I’ve been dead tired and unfocused as all get out all week long because I haven’t had my medication!  I drove the backroads this morning out to my folks’ in case I needed to pull over and take a nap on the way out there!  I didn’t want to fall asleep on the Interstate!!!  So, being on the medications I need will help the weekend to go smoothly.  All in all, it was a good day.
